Friends of the Bay's Citizen Watchdog Initiative helps to fulfill our mission by creating a more educated and informed citizenry living along the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Estuary and within the surrounding watershed. Our goals are to enlist citizen volunteers and empower them with the tools and knowledge necessary to bring an end to persistent pollution sources, and to deploy them as our eyes and ears.

Once volunteers become Watchdogs, we will work with them to address pollution threats from specific or unidentified polluters. Both individuals and groups can be watchdogs. Watchdogs can be school groups with dedicated teachers.

• New York State Department of Environmental Conservation: Call 1-800-TIPP DEC or 1-800-847-7332. (TIPP DEC is available 24 hours a day to report Environmental Conservation Law violations.)
