State of the Watershed Report
The recently released State of the Watershed Report is the first step in developing a watershed management plan for the harbor complex. Friends of the Bay perceived the need to provide municipal planners, government agencies and the public with a comprehensive assessment of all the existing environmental and land use conditions in the watershed, so that prioritized action items could be implemented to further protect, preserve and restore the ecological integrity and productivity of the watershed area.
The Watershed Action Plan will be developed to address the priorities and issues identified in the State of the Watershed Report, with significant citizen participation. Water quality monitoring is a critical component of any watershed management plan since it provides a means to evaluate the progress and success of the efforts in terms of water quality improvement or limiting future water quality degradation.
