State of the Watershed Report

State of the Watershed Report

Friends of the Bay's first "State of the Watershed Report" will summarize historical trends and existing environmental and land use conditions in the watershed.

It will serve to: 1) inform planning and implementation of management and stewardship of natural resources in towns and villages within the Oyster Bay/CSH complex for communities and all levels of government and 2) improve public knowledge and engagement about natural resources in the watershed and challenges to sustaining and improving those resources.

Friends of the Bay's "State of the Watershed Report" project will implement and lead to future actions that further the protection and restoration of Long Island Sound and its embayments, consistent with the Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP) which identifies the specific commitments and recommendations for actions to improve water quality, protect habitat and living resources, educate and involve the public, improve the long-term understanding of how to manage the Sound, monitor progress, and redirect management efforts.

There will be a number of opportunities for public and agency input prior to the report being finalized.

This report will be released in 2008

SOW is sponsored with support from the "sound futures fund".
